This Sunday, May 20, 2012, stating at 5:00 p.m., Concert at the Park goes ballet dancing with the Allesi Ballet Center, under the artistic direction of Ms. Bella Bengco, in a program titled, “Festival of Dances 2012”. Ms. Minette Padilla is program host. 

What happened during the Philippine Marine Corps Silent Drill Exhibition at Rizal Park?

I thought my family and I will never make it to the Philippine Marine Corps Silent Drill Exhibition because it rained at 4:00 pm until 4:30. As soon as the sun peeped behind those gray clouds, we made our way to the slippery floor going to the monument. It wasn't clear to me where to find the silent drill exhibition but it seems that it has started because I see a crowd gathering behind Rizal's monument. A somehow broken voice-over announcing the start of the exhibition can be heard did not bother me rather it excited me because I made it to the start of the silent drill exhibition.



The presentation lasted for about only half an hour. It was great to see the soldiers so snappy in their uniform.

I am glad my family and I were able to witness this exhibition. Its not the usual experience you can find in attractions right now. I found Rizal Park very lively and warm which is not the usual mood people would think when they mention Rizal Park. Maybe this is really the advent of a new era for Rizal Park which is a park attracting people from all walks of life. A Park measurable to international parks note worthy to be one of the best tourist spots in Manila.

I am just getting excited attending my soon-to-be first Concert at the Park presentation (if the weather permits) and now my family and I have a reason to go to Rizal Park earlier than expected.

The public is cordially invited to witness the once-a-month exhibition by the Philippine Marine Corps Silent Drill Group on Sunday, July 3, 2011, starting at 4:00 p.m., at the back of the Rizal Monument, Rizal Park, Manila. This is made possible by the partnership of the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), under Executive Director Juliet H. Villegas, with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) the Philippine Navy (PN) and the Philippine Marines. Admission is free.

The Philippine Marine Corps Silent Drill Exhibition is a precision drill exhibition without verbal command. Members do a series of calculated drill movements and precise handling of their hand-polished M-1 Garand rifles of nickel-plated bayonets. It is an amazing display of skill and coordination, which is quite common in the Marine Corps, especially in the Marine Security & Escort Group (MSEG), where all the members of the Silent Drill team come from.
The MSEG is the unit in the AFP, which is tasked to guard the monument of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, at Rizal Park, the country’s premiere park.

To the people out there who will read this post, I hope that we can support Rizal Park's effort to make the cultural presentations alive and constant in the park. For our attendance is one of the signs to show that we appreciate what NPDC is doing to make tourism at Rizal Park more robust and lively. And besides, its all FREE!!!!
