Win-Win Contest: Win Manila Ocean Park tickets for 4 different attractions!

I just received the tickets given to me by Manila Ocean Park for covering the Rave Event. My special thanks to the Marketing Team of Manila Ocean Park especially the nighttime marketing team Ms, Armi, Ms. Donna and Ms. Sue for all their support.

On that day, the invited bloggers were the lucky ones who got first glimpse of Hotel H2O’s Liquid Pool and Lounge. Since then, I have received tremendous blessings after giving this service which started with just an idea of promoting Manila’s tourism especially to help Manila bounce back from the Mendoza incident.

I am not saying we should just forget what happened that day. It will not be fair for the survivors and the victims as well. However, let’s move forward and do better next time. As I watched the Mendoza incident from the moment it was telecast live until it ended and even all throughout the hearings, I felt so sad that there was nothing I can do to help. So when opportunity arose to promote Manila’s tourism, I jumped at the chance right away. There was just this compelling desire to do something for all the tears shed that fateful night.

Coming from UP, I had this program that I have to fight for everything but after PSI I now know better. Now, I can say that it would be a lot easier to stand in front of the crowd and tell them to go with me on a rally compared to thinking of a win-win situation where everyone will benefit from the decision one will make. Some people might argue, oh but you know you can’t please everybody. On the other hand, this is not about pleasing everybody this is about doing what is right. One Filipino culture we are proud of is the idea of bayanihan. But at this time and age there are no bahay kubo’s to carry anymore. The burden is now to help the Philippines rise from the heavy corruption and crab mentality that creeps in a Filipino’s mind. This is the hunger Bo Sanchez was talking about; the attraction John Calub is advocating; the mindset Jomar Hilario repeatedly mentions; the agape Sonnie Santos and his team has been giving; the strategic thinking Cito Beltran is promoting and the service – Alvin Tabanag has been spreading.

I have so many mentors in my life and I have not mentioned everyone yet. But the ones mentioned were my inspiration to think that I am committed to do something bigger than myself. It’s time to look at the beauty of our own country, the talents, the gems who continuously stay here in our country to be of service to none other than the Filipino.

And that is what I love about Manila Ocean Park. It is Philippines one and only oceanarium so far. It advocates for a lot of many things that we take for granted. So today, I am inspired to organize this contest. Yes, this is my first ever contest and my pledge as well to help as many people become successful.

Trip or Treats: Goodie Giveaway #8: Cebu Pasalubong Gift Hat!

I read a blog from Trip or Treats Goodie Giveaway #8: Cebu Pasalubong Gift Hat! which inspired me to write this blog. The blogger who made the post is giving away goodies from her Cebu travel. After reading the post, I remember how great was my Cebu travel last Christmas 2009. So I decided to post here my precious Cebu travel pictures which I will be adding comments regarding consumerism. The blog post I mentioned having a contest right now is from http://www.triportreats.blogspot.com/. Check out her blog as the contest ends on November 20, 2010.

For family fun, the best activity we did as a group is to take the Skytour at Crown Regency Cebu. Each of us paid P888 to enjoy the skywalk, edge coaster, 4D movie and a buffet dinner. As a family, we thought it was a really great deal. I think the only downside of the tour is that photo opportunities is monopolized by the service provider thus we were surpised to find out that pictures cost thousands of pesos for each sky treat. Take note each sky treat has a different rate for pictures. And so if you want to remember your adventure you have no choice but to pay for the bloated price for the pictures. Unless of course, you know how to haggle with the hotel staff. wink wink. Still, in terms of experience and bonding moments this is really a great thing to do in Cebu. As for the 4D movie and the buffet, I can say that it was mediocre. It was not bad but it was not amazing as well.

To go to city tour in Cebu, we decided to rent a cab for the day! Don't try to fit everything in your itinerary in one day or you'll end up really exhausted. When we went to Cebu, I was surprised that traffic can be compared to Manila traffic at times. Not the heavy kind but it was still traffic. But the best thing is that you can go to several historical sites in half a day or if you really want to finish it in one day I guess you can do that as well. So we went to Fort San Pedro, Casa Gorordo, Guitar factories, Lapu-Lapu-Magellan Sutukil, Magellan's Cross, Basilica de Sto. Nino, and many more. We paid about P2000 for renting the cab for a day or P200 per hour. We were told it was expensive but the experience and convenience was worth it.

I many not be able to give you a chance to get a Cebu travel package but if you want to get a taste of these Cebu delicacies, check out to join the contest from Trips or Treats:

2011 Awesome Calendar of the Philippines

This 2011 Awesome Calendar of the Philippines is sent to me through e-mail. This list was taken from the list provided by www.ourawesomeplanet.com written by Anton Diaz. What I like about the 2011 Awesome Calendar of the Philippines is that it has the list of Philippine festivals I'd like to go with my family all year round. So if I need ideas where the family and I can go to for our next vacation, I just have to search the 2011 Awesome Calendar of the Philippines in www.iaadamlim's blog or check out ourawesomeplanet's website for the list.

Just an idea bubble in my head, it would be great to discuss consumerism issues while vsiting every single Philippine festivals all year round. Ah what a life that would be! Imagine the wealth of information we can get from doing that. It would be really helpful to promote and improve consumerism and tourism here in the Philippines. Come to think of it, we are not doing so bad since according to a newspaper I read, tourism is still up11% even after we had the Mendoza incident. Still, I think without the Mendoza incident we could have done better. At this time, all we can do is move forward and find solutions to the growing need to improve the quality of consumerism and to let the Filipino values shine in everything that we do.

Again to give credit to the maker of this calendar, I would like to refer to the note below:

Pacquiao vs Margarito Fight: Live Screening at Manila Ocean Park (Review)

Alright if by accident you opened this blog expecting that there will be no spoilers about the ongoing television cast of the Pacquiao-Margarito Fight then I'm sorry but I cannot promise you anything. On the other hand, what I can guarantee to you is that I will focus on reviewing what it is like to watch a Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito Fight.

When we arrived at the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of Pacquiao-Margarito Fight at 9:00 am, we were greeted already by a long queue of guests.

The caterer which is handled by Makansutra were still preparing the chafing dish and food. The good thing is that there were lots of seats to choose from. What makes the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening different for me is that if you don't feel like watching the pre-fights first, you can just watch the sea animals peacefully swimming around the main tank of Manila Ocean Park. The reason I said this is because the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening Pacquiao-Margarito Fight was held at the area beside the main tank of Manila Ocean Park.

The venue of the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of Pacquiao-Margarito fight is held in two areas. The first one as I mentioned is beside the main tank and the other one is in a conference area facing the Manila bay.

I remember the main area of the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening Pacquiao-Margarito fight is the same area where they hold the Mermaid shows.

Because guests were pouring in, the staff of Makansutra were very busy to serve the hungry viewers. This is to be expected since the advertisements said that buffet breakfast will be served for the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight. Naturally if your attending, all you need to do is leave your house and proceed to the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening to eat your first meal of the day and take advantage of the buffet meal.

What I know about some people is that they get grumpy when they are hungry and so it was inevitable to hear complaints about the speed of the food service. It was a good thing that the staff of Makansutra was able to minimize the chaos. Still an early preparation could have made the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight run more smoothly.

Since I was there at the very start of the event, the first things we saw were commercials from the paperview provider of the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening Pacquiao-Margarito Fight which is Solar TV. The signal of the livestream was also intermittent causing fluctuations in audio and video feed. Fortunately, once the pre-fights started there were no commercials and interruptions anymore.

Again the purpose of this review is not so much as to report what happened to the fight. My intention for blogging this event is to assess whether watching the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight is a good family event and if it adheres to the values of consumerism. If you want to get the blow by blow account of a sports enthusiast who attended the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight with me go to www.pinoyfitness.com for their review.

Again, I will not pretend to be a sports enthusiast most especially a boxing enthusiast but rather my attendance to this event is mostly because I would like to support a fellow countryman who has constantly made our country "Proud to be Pinoy" in the area of boxing. And so in the next Pacquiao bout I would like to get an idea if watching a live screening can be a major family event where we as a family can share the value of patriotism and Filipino pride with other people.

I also assessed the kind of crowd who attended the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight. Honestly, for the guests of the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of Pacquiao-Margarito fight I was not disappointed. The Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of Pacquiao-Margarito fight was attended by a great crowd who were there to have clean and wholesome fun. It also helped that there were several groups of families present in the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening. The family is complete with grandparents, parents, their children and even up to extended family. Many families were gathered to support Pacquiao in his fight with Margarito.

On the other hand, I think there were unnecessary stressors that could have been avoided. First, is the speed of service of the food providers. Second is the quantity of food since the advertisement said that the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight will include a breakfast buffet, guests were complaining about the insufficient food items readily available when they visit the buffet area. Good thing that Makansutra was able to address the situation by bringing out more food.

Third was the proximity of the comfort room. For me, I think this was something the management cannot really control because the restrooms are already in a fixed location. However, if your watching the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening from the main area you have to leave the vicinity to go to the other area where the restroom is located.

Lastly, the timing of the announcements of prizes was done quite late since the main event of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight was nearing already.

I would have preferred that they distributed the time of giving the raffle prizes before each pre-fight to build up the excitement rather than do it one block of time especially when the Pacquiao-Margarito fight was about to begin. I heard somebody saying if it was possible to turn off the microphone of the announcer because they cannot hear what was being said during the interviews before the fight. Hence, the announcement of prizes and the excitement of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight was competing against each other. Nonetheless, people were still happy to win prizes.

Overall, no matter what the boo-boos are during the Manila Ocean Park Live Screening, it didn't matter that much once the Pacquiao-Margarito fight started. It also has to be noted that this is the first time for Manila Ocean Park to host a live screening of a Pacquiao fight.

I can say that once the Pacquiao-Margarito fight started everyone settled and cheered in unison for every punch Pacquiao gave to Margarito. At the end of the day, I think that's what matters most - to see Pacquiao defend his boxing title.

On the 12th round, people were seated at the edges of their chair waiting for a knockout. Unfortunately it did not happen this time but nonetheless everybody gave a sigh of relief to see Manny Pacquiao without even a single scratch on his face. Congratulations to the People's Hero, Mr. Manny Pacquiao.
